Inquiry Skills Included in Physics Textbooks in Secondary schools and
their Acquisition degree

A thesis title: Inquiry Skills Included in Physics Textbooks in Secondary
schools and their Acquisition degree by students.
This research aimed to explore the amount of questionnaire’s skills which
are involved in the physics books in high school ( class system) , and
measuring their role for the students in the learning process, in order to
achieve that; the researcher used a Descriptive approach with its analytic and
survey methods, he made a list with the questionnaire’s skills which should
be involved in the books after testing them, then he prepared the research
tools which consisted of Content Analysis Sheet and Skills Measurement ,
after testing and approving them in the appropriate ways, this study was
carried out on all the teaching books which consists of (8) books in the
analytic descriptive methods, while the the survey analytic methods was
conducted on a random sample of (278) student from level two and four in
high school (class system) which represent (28,13%) from the studying
community which is (988) students.
One of the most extinguish results of the thesis was making a list with the
questionnaires skills which should be involved in books and it was consisted
of (22) questionnaires skills with (71) factors, also one of the results was that
all the questionnaires skills was involved in the sample of the studying books
with different level of input, “asking questions” skills was the most common
while the least was “factors control” skills, it had been found ( 0,01)
difference in the static measurements between the performance of the
students who took part in the questionnaires skills and the acceptance level
was (60%) in favor of the acceptance results, which indicates to a depression
in acquiring the questionnaires skills among students, also there was a static
measurement differentiation at the level of (0,05) in learning the following
skills among students: ( number usage – conclusions – formatting questions
– designing activities and trials – experimentation) because of the different
level and in favor of level four, while there was no static measurement
difference in the rest of questionnaires skills and the total degree of the
questionnaires skills comes from the difference in the class level.
This research recommend in making balance between the cognitive and
skill targets in developing or rewriting books, and the importance of training
teachers on questionnaires and its applied skills, also it recommend in using
teaching strategies which activate the student role and stimulate him to use
the questionnaires skills during the learning process and acquiring them,
also providing students with additional homework to practice throughout
these skills. Then the thesis indicated to the suggested future researches
which could help in the subject of the research.
